This summer, in partnership with Celtic Horizon Tours, we’re heading north to Donegal for a couple of days great motorcycling. On the way we’ll be visiting the PSNI to take part in their BikeSafe event. From there we will be heading up to the Atlantic coast and riding some of the best roads in the country, if not the world.
All great adventures start in the middle of the night. While 7am may sound ok to you, to some of us it’s terribly early. That’s when we’ll be leaving from the Coachmans Inn, near Dublin airport on the 5th of July this year. From there we’ll take the slower road up before cutting in at Ardee. We then ride to Enniskillen when Constable Trevor Kirk and his team will give us the option to have our rider skills assessed.
Once we’ve had our brilliance as motorcyclists confirmed, we’ll depart to Clancy’s of Glenfarne where we’ll spend the next two evenings. Clancy’s is owned and operated by a fellow motorcyclist. As well as offering great accommodation, our hosts know the value of secure bike parking.
On day two we’re off to Falcarragh in Donegal. We’ll be travelling via Letterkenny before stopping off in the hamlet of Kilmacrennan for the best mid morning second breakfast of your young life. From there it’s past Glenveagh National Park and up the motorcycle paradise that is the R256 to An Falcarach for lunch.
From there it’s a leisurely ride back down to Killybegs before cutting across country to Glenfarne and back to Clancy’s for an evening of tall tales with new friends.
There are very limited places on this tour so get in touch with any of the team from Celtic Horizon Tours to book your place. Prices start at €269 per person sharing. Pillions are more than welcome. Guides on motorcycles facilitate the whole trip.
Points to note. Your bike should be roadworthy and legal. It’ll need a recent service as well as good tyres, insurance and a current tax disc. The fee for BikeSafe is included in the cost of the trip. So too is breakfast and dinner on both days. Celtic Horizon Tours is, of course, a fully bonded Irish tour operator.
