Yamaha announce a new Race R1

Fast gets faster!

Black with wings. Is there anything cooler?

If you’ve taken to the trackday hobby with gusto, then you’re gonna love this!

Yamaha have released a new R1 for the 2025 season and this one is a dedicated track /race bike.

While the crossplane four cylinder 998cc engine is the same well proven block the electronics have been developed with the help of Yamahas MotoGP technicians. Those, almost compulsory, winglets improve the bikes downforce and combined with anti wheelie technology keep the bike on the ground where it’s energy can be used to its best effect.

They are made, of course, of carbon fibre. This means less weight combined with more strength and once again they’re designed by the MotoGP team.

Getting things off to a great start is the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T). This piece of lovely features a high-tech twistgrip assembly which activates an easy, yet instant, acceleration. Its complexity is simple a slider, a spring and a gear operate the lightweight ride-by-wire Accelerator Position Sensor Grip (APSG) making fast faster!

Lean it in!

This race electronic package promises to be exceptional. The rider assistance is all taken from the technology used in Moto GP.

Suspension is also new with a pair of brand new 43mm KYB inverted forks. These have been completely re-designed from the ground up. They’ve got new and comprehensive adjusters for both compression and rebound on both legs as well as a base valve on each one. This allows for more stability, better damping and a better ‘feel’ from the bike.

Stop that!

Brembo make an appearance with a set of Stylema calipers and a Brembo master cylinder. The calipers are designed to maximise air cooling while the master cylinder moves parallel to the brake lever.

There are no ‘road’ parts on the new bike. The R1 Race is designed to be used on track only. As such there’s a lot less to modify and a lot less to purchase as aftermarket pieces. This even includes the seat which is a grippy race unit.

Prices aren’t available yet, but stocks will be very limited. Give any of the team at www.danfay.ie a call and get your name down fast. It might also be a good time to get a good deal on a used S1000RR!
