H-D CAU Sportsters Range

Not many brands have this kind of heritage

Waterford Harley Davidson would appear to have had an excellent season with a record number of new and HD CAU (Certified Approved Used ) machines. At this time of the year the dealerships sales manager, Mo, is kicking some of his hard earned commission in and offering a healthy €1,000 of credit to spend on clothing or accessories with any pre owned Sportster purchased between now and the end of November.

It's even learner legal!

First up is the latest version of the Street Rod. This one was registered in 2020, has had one owner and costs €7,995

It’s powered by the very latest evolution of new H-D engines. In this case it’s 749cc Revolution X V-Twin. The motor is a high output affair that makes its peak power, a shade under 70bhp at 9,000 rpm. The styling leans on Harley-Davidsons racing history with drag style handlebars, upside down forks and twin rear shocks with ‘piggyback’ or external reservoirs.

Styled to perfection

In short while the styling is excellent there’s nothing on this bike that doesn’t need to be there. The white base with the logo on the tank and the cowl added to those cool bar end mirrors all add up to a machine that not only performs, but looks the part. There are 18,349 kilometres on the bike.

The next bike is a 2007 Sportster XL1200. This is a bike that stands out thanks to the simple styling that we associate with the Harley-Davidson brand. The 1,202cc air cooled V-Twin Evolution engine is a classic and this bike sounds fantastic since its soundtrack is delivered through a full Vance & Hynes exhaust system!

The perfect stance!

Thanks to the single disc on the front the cross spoked wheel is shown off to its best while the chrome finish and detail running from the front to the rear of the bike allows it to stand out from the rest. Forward foot controls add to the riders comfort and the classic seat allow for a pillion passenger to be carried, but the seat doesn’t take anything away from the bikes lines. Even the engine bars are unobtrusive! With only 30,759km on the clock and a full warranty as standard there’s a lot of bike here for the €8,500.

Rarer than a rare thing!

The next one is a very rare bike indeed. The team have recently taken a wonderful 100th Anniversary Sportster 883 into stock. The 883 has recently been retired from the H-D line up and, as such, they were already starting to gain interest in the collector market. This one, however, is very special. As well as being a collectable 100th anniversary model which was made in limited numbers, it, quite remarkably, has a genuine mileage of only 179 kilometres. While that’s not even enough to justify a first service this bike is, like all their machines, fully prepped and is supplied with a full 12 months warranty. It's somewhat of a bargain at €11,995 as it’s only going to go up in value.

Stripped back and leaning on the companies race history

Also available is a 2013 ‘72 1200 Custom XL1200 has it all! The chrome spoked wheels finish the bikes classic American look. This particular machine is known, with love, as the ’72 since it nods its head to the classic H-D machines of the 1970s. Pieces like those pull back handlebars, the single clock and the underslung mirrors all combine to make something with a wonderful timeless look and feel.

Powered by the companies Evolution 1212cc engine is where the new tech joins that look with a newer and more comfortable ride. While it’s still an old school air cooled twin it’s rubber-mounted and has aluminium heads. This makes it lighter and easier to ride. It’s also fuel injected. The engine, known as the blockhead, has a lineage that can be traced back to the iconic Shovelhead and Ironhead engines. Meanwhile all of the tech is neatly hidden behind the engine and the fuel tank so it doesn’t spoil the look of the bike. It has 29,458 miles on the clock and costs €9,549

Subtly dressed

A 2017 Sportster XL1200CX Roadster for €12,549 is the final machine that Mo is supporting with the €1,000 credit offer. The XL is inspired by the ‘Motor Companies’ rich racing heritage and is powered by an air cooled 1,202cc Evolution engine. The cast aluminium wheels are lightweight, yet strong, and feature twin discs on the front for faster stopping as well as a single one on the rear where a pair of adjustable shocks look after rider comfort and feedback.

The upside down forks frame the short mudguard and the small headlight. All of this is topped with lowered handlebars and a gauge that doubles as both a speedo and a tacho. From a styling point of view everything on the XL1200 is simple. The rear fender is ‘chopped’ the branding on the tank is a flat charcoal colour that looks perfect on the vivid black background. The short dual exhausts are fitted with laser cut black heat shields. This bike has only 2,364 kilometres on the clock and offers the new owner a blank canvas for customisation.

Bikes prepped by riders for riders

All of these bikes come fully serviced and prepared to meet Harley-Davidsons certification process and the dealership are rightly proud of the way they’re turned out. When they say the price is the ‘on the road price’ they mean it. All these bikes come with a full tank of juice and they even have road tax!

Mo is on 051844200. Give him a call to organise a test ride and start taking some of his money!
