Pyramid Dress The GS

A lot of protection for your pride and joy

The GS family has been around significantly longer than many of us have been alive. Over the years it’s evolved from a bike that has been sought out by adventure riders, which it still is, but one that’s favoured by long distance tourers, riders who like their technology and some of us who just like the idea of being any of the above.

The thing is that the bike(s) are made for so much more than just the street and when we see them being used ‘correctly’ on a bit of rougher roads it can only warm our cold dark hearts. The bike is, after all, a GS which stands for “Gelände/Straße” or “Terraine/Street in German. Interestingly enough “Gach Sráid” is “All Streets” as Gaeilge and the “R” as Gaeilge could easily stand for “Rothar”...

Keeping it covered

To help those who ride these beasts there are a staggering amount of aftermarket accessories both from BMW and other markets. Speakind as someone who has pivoted his on a rock and used the sump to change direction, seeing that Pyramid have made a robust engine guard makes a lot of sense.

One of the other factors that one should consider here is that tearing a sump (the bottom part of the bikes engine) or mangling the exhaust on any motorcycle can be expensive enough to make a stone cry. Covering the exhaust headers, the engine casing and the sump not only protects them from damage off road, it also keeps the worst of the salt and loose chippings that we find on our roads at different times of the year at bay when it comes to the nastieness of corrosion. While there is one fitted as standard within the GS range, the one from Pyrimid is machined from a much AW5083 aluminium. This makes it much tougher than the GS’ standard guard. It’s also powder-coated with a cool textured matte black. Since it has gloss silver inserts it remains incongerous as it looks like an OEM part. Even I could fit it to the bike. This is because it uses the very same bolt holes as the original does. There’s absolutely no need for eventually giving up and calling a mechanic. All the bits are in the bag and there’s even a set of instructions included that you can cast aside and ignore. This is only if you’re a man. Other genders are more intelligent.

The finish is excellent!

You can make it look better and protect even more with a matching front engine cover. This shields the exposed front section of the GS’ engine block and looks the part.

If you ride a BMW Rothar Míle, Trí Chéad Gach Sráid, then you could do worse than wrap it up safely. See the Pyramid Moto website for these and more goodies.
