When the school run needs to be more efficient!
How cool is that!
With a pair of budding motorcyclists in our house we’re facing increasing and more insistence that we adopt a ‘better attitude’ and start carrying them to and from school on our bikes. The big concern here is making sure that the kit they wear is as good as the adult PPE that we wear. The good news, to that extent, is that LS2 have now released a full spec, ECE 22.06 certified road helmet for younger heads.
The same tech as the adults helmets
It’s called the ‘Kid Helmet’, someone in their marketing department needs to be spoken to, and looks the part with a choice of colours for the fashion conscious pre teen in your house to choose from.
Ventilation and comfort come as standard
Because it meets the European standards it’s perfectly legal to wear on the public road. More importantly, it exceeds those standards. The shell is made from an ultra-strong material Kinetic Polymer Alloy. It weighs in at 1250 grams and has the flexibility absorb a significant amount of ‘unpleasantness’.
The protection offered and delivered is greatly assisted by being lined with a Multi-Density EPS. The, now standard, emergency release system, which allows the removal of the cheek pads with minimal movement of the wearer's head and neck in the event of an accident are part of the new lids. All of this is breathable, hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking, removable and washable. The laser-cut foam makes for a snug fit.
The LS2 branding is quite subtle
One again, just like the adult versions, there’s a venting system which can be used while wearing a pair of gloves. They utilise a set of vents on the chin and forehead which are complimented with channels in the liner and lead to an ‘exhaust on the back of the helmet. There’s also a breath deflector in the chin guard to help keep the visor clear.
The buckle works particularly well for small hands
The visor is resistant to scratches, we’ll let you know how that goes, and comes ready for a pinlock. It comes with a Micrometric fastening buckle. While it’s not our favourite way to close a helmet, it’s very easy for small hands to use.The LS2 Kid is available in solid colours for €70 and €89 in any of the three that are finished with a graphic.
