Watsonian build an entry level sidecar outfit
The Benelli is the perfect match
While there were some very cool machines on display at Motorcycle Live in the NEC this week, The sidecar outfits from Watsonian Squire always stand out.
A motorcycle tradition
One of the things that some of us, perhaps, find intimidating about buying a sidecar outfit can be the cost. Premium product, built by the likes of British master technicians and craftsmen, attracts a premium price. Now thanks to a new initiative in Watsonian Squire there’s a new entry point outfit available.
Comfort at a lower cost
For a number of years now we’ve seen companies like Yamaha launch machines such as the MT-10SP and follow them up with machines such as the MT-07. The same build quality, the same brand and sub section, but at a much more affordable price. It’s the same here.
Made for each other!
What they’ve done is produce an entire machine with the ‘chair’ attached to a Benelli Imperiale 400. This was chosen since it has a manageable amount of torque that’s enough to power the whole affair without causing any ‘issues’ from a handling point of view. They’re calling it the Squire SB1.
Plenty of leg room
The sidecar body itself is made from GRP fibreglass. This makes it light and a gloss black gelcoat finish makes for a durable, all season machine. Costs are kept to a minimum with features such as a wind deflector instead of a screen and using vinal to cover the seat is also made from the same fibreglass, with vinyl padding, to keep costs down. The whole lot sits on a new chassis with its own suspension and a 10” wheel.
The company style the 'chairs' to match the bikes
Depending on how well your marriage is doing the unit can be detached from the bike and you can ride away on your own taking some time out to compose your apology before reattaching it.
Dating was different back then...
A simple production process with the same bike being used also makes for more cost effective production which allows the company to deliver a more affordable product but, rather cleverly, without compromising on quality.
The whole lot including the bike will cost €11,699 landed here in Ireland. For more on the companies range see www.watsonian-squire.com.
