Some days things just don’t go as we’d like them to. As motorcyclists when something unwanted happens, we can really appreciate a set of good motorcycle kit. Good kit doesn’t just happen. It needs to be developed and tested and then it needs to be certified. These days all of our personal protection comes under the legislation of the European Union. Any products that are intended to protect the user from a hazard must be tested, by an accredited laboratory, to a written CE standard. Then, and only then, will the laboratory issue a CE certificate for each product but if it passes the criteria.
Different tests are performed for different products such as gloves, boots, limb protectors, back protectors and even the stitching that holds the garment together. These tests are performed according to each CE standard. If the product only provides protection against the weather, it doesn’t need to be tested or certified and won’t carry any CE mark as it won’t protect the rider if it all goes a bit wrong. Any serious motorcycle clothing manufacturer worth their salt will be expert at building kit that passes these tests. The people behind the Lindstrands brand are no different. Indeed, they are at forefront of developing and testing protective gear for motorcyclists.
Just one of these pieces is Lindstrands Halden jacket. This jacket comes with Scandinavian developed all weather technology as standard. As such it’s a multifunctional, breathable, wind and waterproof technical textile jacket. This means that it can be worn as effectively in southern Spain in July as it can be worn in Donegal in January. The outer fabric is made with a high tenacity weave. This means that is slides oh so very well across a hard surface without tearing. This in turn keeps the armour in place. Speaking of which there are a set of adjustable CE certified protectors at both the shoulders and elbows.
The rain is kept out with a Drywall membrane while the detachable thermal lining keeps the heat in. The second one can be removed and there is an open back vent for increased ventilation when you do get down to Spain again. The collar, waist, hem, and sleeve ends are all adjustable and there is a long connection zipper to the pants. Sizes start at 46 and go up to 66. All are available in both mens and ladies cut. Lindstrands Halden jackets are CE certified to an AA standard.
