Now that the world is beginning to ease back open we’re getting to ride our bikes just that bit more and just that bit further. Paul from trackday company, Motocraft, has bagged himself a new Zero SR/F to help slowly re assimilate himself into normal society. These days American company, Zero are one of the largest manufacturers of electric motors in the world. The first question about them is always charging. How long do they hold one and how long does it take to top them up?
The great news is that charging one of their machines is simple. They require no additional equipment or installations. Simply bring your bike home, plug it into your nearest outlet, and you’re done. Simply plug the bike in at night. You then wake up every morning with a full “tank.” It’s also very, very efficient. Per hour of charging, a Zero takes you farther than just about any other EV in the world. The result, most owners use a standard wall socket to “fuel” their daily rides.
Halvarssons Mora - Zero S & DS
Zero now offer a 6kW ‘Charge Tank’ for all 2015 and newer Zero S and Zero DS models. This increases charging speeds by about six times as compared to using a standard outlet.
In just one hour the Charge Tank will deliver as much as 135 kilometres of city range. This is made even easier with scalable Quick Chargers. These are for home or office use. The system can more than double charging speeds and dramatically reduce charging times. It uses stand-alone 1kW chargers that work in conjunction with the motorcycle’s standard on-board charger.
Rather than being a chore to own or run, these machines offer exhilarating performance as well as carefree ownership. The advantages to going electric are many. There’s no need to visit the petrol station. There is also no oil to change and no exhaust fumes. Indeed, each mile ridden on a Zero is considerably less expensive, making it considerably more enjoyable.
The bikes are powered by the Z-Force motor which was developed from the ground up by Zero Motorcycles to be optimized for efficiency, power and size. It features an interior permanent magnet design that significantly improves performance during hard riding and allows higher sustained top speeds. Even more impressive, the motor requires no liquid or forced-air cooling. It produces 100% torque from a standstill for instantaneous throttle response and incredible off-the-line performance.
Halvarssons Mora - A Host Of Features
Paul has got himself some new kit as well. Scandinavian company, Halvarssons, have landed here in Ireland in a big way and the multifunctional textile jacket called the ‘Mora’ comes with a host of features. These include a removable Dryway+2.0 membrane with an Outlast temperature regulating lining. The textile is treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) and there is even a water-repellent nubuck reinforcement on shoulders and elbows.
This includes the companies own HI-ART reinforcement. Thanks to the way it’s constructed and the quality of the protectors in the jacket, it’s CE certified to class AA.
It’s not all about the protection though. Generous openings on sleeves and torso along with adjustable sleeve width with the companies own WindWire adjustment technology. This means that the height and width at waist are adjustable. The stretch panels at elbows and shoulders make it easier to wear while still keeping the protectors in the right place.
The whole thing is full of ventilation zips for comfort in warm weather and it can, of course, be supplemented with a back protector. There is a long connection zipper to connect them to a pair of the companies pants, such as the Malung which are made to the same standard as the jacket.
Halvarssons Mora has a detachable storm collar and the jacket is available in either black or blue from size 46 to 66. The pants are available up to a generous 62. The demo pictured is available at a generous discount. The whole lot is available from Franklin Motorcycles here in Swords on 015385005.
