It used to be just the top factory motorbike racers who would have their own helmet designs. If you were lucky, there would be a replica paint job available of your favourite riders’ lid. Nowadays nearly everyone seems to have their own design, and it’s one way to make sure you stand out from the crowd of racers around you.
I was a bit upset when I crashed last September and wrecked my old Little Mermaid themed helmet, but it’s now on the wall at home with a long line of others. I had raced for two years with that lid, and it was recognized by everyone I met both at home and in the UK. Thankfully though, Arai have supplied me with a brand new top of the line RX-7V FIM racing helmet. It was time to get it looking extra pretty.
I called Marty Lennon of Lennon Designs since he had done such an amazing job on my race bike livery. Originally, I had just asked him to copy my old design, but he asked could he play around with it a little bit. When he came back with my new design I was absolutely blown away. It was everything I thought I wanted and so much more.
Arai Rx-7V FIM - Genius
The helmet is a mix of paint and stickers to give it more depth and detail. It looks even more phenomenal in person with waves, bubbles, and even glitter over the top section to make it look like sparkly sand. I couldn’t love it more. Marty is an absolutely genius at taking your ideas and making them better than you could ever have expected.
You can see more of Marty’s spectacular designs on his Instagram account. Find him by searching @Martyl5. If you’d like your own motorcycle helmet designed and painted/stickered you can also send him a message on Instagram.
