Zero SR/F - Electric Bike Fleet Now In Dublin
Way back in the day when the motor car first arrived in the UK, the powers that be were so afraid of the things that they introduced the ‘Red Flag Act’. This ensured that every car in the country had a person walking along in front of it with a red flag. Their purpose, to warn other road users of the impending danger posed by the approaching vehicle. As a species we’ve been a little prone to resisting change. It’s no surprise, therefore, that some of the myths around E Vehicles, including electric motorcycles, are stubbornly refusing to go away.
Suggestions that charging needs specialised outlets or that there is a fire risk are completely without foundation. Zero are one of the world's largest manufacturers of electric motos and charging one of their machines is simple. They require no additional equipment or installations. Simply bring your bike home, plug it into your nearest outlet, and you’re done.
Similarly to the stories about how long they take to charge. Zero riders now have a choice to charge six times faster using their ‘Charge Tank’ option at all level two charging stations. Then again, you could always plug in one of the companies ‘Quick Charger’ accessories into a second outlet. This will allow you to cut home charge times by over 60% without installing a special charging station.
Rather than all of this you, the rider, can simply plug the bike in at night. You then wake up every morning with a full “tank.” It’s also very, very efficient. Per hour of charging, a Zero takes you farther than just about any other EV in the world. The result, most owners use a standard wall socket to “fuel” their daily rides.
Zero SR/F - Fast Charging, On The Go
Riders can now add 50 kilometres of range while grabbing coffee. For fast charging on the go, Zero now offer a 6kW ‘Charge Tank’ for all 2015 and newer Zero S and Zero DS models. This increases charging speeds by about six times as compared to using a standard outlet. It allows a full recharge in as little as an hour depending on the size of the battery.
This Charge Tank uses the popular J1772 EV standard. It is compatible with the rapidly expanding network of Level 2 (220 V) public and home charging stations. In just one hour the Charge Tank will deliver as much as 135 kilometres of city range. This is made even easier with scalable Quick Chargers. These are for home or office use. The system can more than double charging speeds and dramatically reduce charging times. It uses stand-alone 1kW chargers that work in conjunction with the motorcycle’s standard on-board charger.
Rather than being a chore to own or run, these machines offer exhilarating performance as well as carefree ownership. The advantages to going electric are many. There’s no need to visit the petrol station. This in turn means that you may well get off the smokes and stop eating so much chocolate. There is also no oil to change and no exhaust fumes.
Zero SR/F - Elegant Simplicity
In addition, there are a host of benefits experienced by Zero owners on a regular basis that are, perhaps, not as obvious. Behind the design of each cutting edge model is a philosophy of elegant simplicity that keeps the weight of the motorcycle low. It also virtually eliminates all routine powertrain maintenance and yields stealthy acceleration.
As a premium brand, Zero designs each motorcycle with the sort of quality and integrity that inspires an exceptional riding experience. Beyond that, the upfront cost of a Zero is not what it appears to be when compared against its traditional internal combustion counterparts. Each mile ridden on a Zero is considerably less expensive, making it considerably more enjoyable.
The bikes are powered by the Z-Force motor which was developed from the ground up by Zero Motorcycles to be optimized for efficiency, power and size. With nearly the same weight and volume as competitive brushless motors used in similar applications, this revolutionary motor produces up to 130% more power and 150% more torque. It features an interior permanent magnet design that significantly improves performance during hard riding and allows higher sustained top speeds. Even more impressive, the motor requires no liquid or forced-air cooling. The motor produces 100% torque from a standstill for instantaneous throttle response and incredible off-the-line performance. And now, they've got even sportier with the SR/S.
The Zero SR/F is available to test ride from Franklin Motorcycles here in Dublin.
