The XSR from Yamaha is a parallel twin which has been built on the Tracer 700 platform. But thanks to its styling and finish, it both looks and feels quite different. This machine is part of the Japanese giants ‘Faster Sons’ range. And it looks the part with a set of vintage inspired headlights and taillights.
Details like the dual texture seat and even those Phantom tyres from Pirelli, look the part when it comes to authentic styling. But don’t worry, all this is ‘looking the part’ is complimented by a totally up to date chassis and engine package.
The same liquid cooled twin cylinder engine with its cross plane technology and 270 degree crank offer outstanding fuel efficiency and a deep and powerful drive thanks to its torque output. The lightweight tank is a wholly aluminium unit, saving weight. And the switch gear is as easy to use as any new Yamaha.
This is indeed a machine which has been built with the riders enjoyment in mind. The mass forward build is designed to make the bike lighter to steer and therefore ride. Because of its powerful torque the 700 picks up its pace in a smart and powerful way. And while it looks wonderfully ‘old school’ details such as the dual disc brakes with state of the art ABS are anything but!
The Yamaha XSR 700 is a blend of original Japanese motorcycling combined with the very best of Japanese motorcycling technology. We’ve ridden the bike and, for something that would suit a novice rider so well to be so enjoyable for an experienced rider to use, is testament to how well Yamaha have done with this machine.
The Yamaha XSR 700 is widely available throughout the dealer network. Make sure you insist on the cooler red and white coloured one!
