In a world where political correctness takes precedence, where health and safety policies dictate so much that we refer to 200bhp sports bikes as being ‘dynamic’ and ‘precise’ when what we really mean is ‘very feckin fast’! Opening the Yamaha Aerox brochure to see the bluntly honest and obvious statement that ‘Life Is A Race’ in bold capitals across the page is so refreshing.
As the Yamaha Aerox is one of the last two stroke mopeds left the chances of it winning are beyond good. It would also seem to be an appropriate way to address a potential rider if they were in their late teens and somewhat immortal. Rather refreshingly those days are gone now and the acne encrusted lunatic in your boxroom will need some sort of training before they get unleashed on the general public.
The styling is all about the companies supersport bikes and it is one of, if not, the coolest 50cc bikes on the market. It’s also really well made with a new chassis as well as disc brakes up the front and down the back. It goes, handles and stops like it should.
The traditional storage under the seat for a helmet is still there and the clocks are now high spec LCD units. The bike will reach 40kph or so as it is, but there is an option to derestrict it and get a bit more power out of the motor. We’d suggest going the whole hog and spending twice the price of the bike getting it to reach 50 kph…
The Aerox is available from all Yamaha dealers nationwide. They’re still just as much fun as they always have been. Even if you don’t want to use it yourself putting the alien that used to be your child until they turned into a teenager on one is so much better than driving them everywhere in your wife’s Volvo…
