Husqvarna Norden 901 - A New Adventure Awaits

Husqvarna are a company that we have grown used to owning the dirt bike scene. With riders like Billy Bolt winning the world championship this year they really are on the map as far as off road competition is concerned. They have, meanwhile, been working quietly on a whole new range of off road bikes over the last few years. The big deal for next year is their first foray into the adventure bike market with the Husqvarna Norden 901.

What Husqvarna Motorcycles are offering us with this new bike is, is a machine which has been built using the companies legendary off-road ability, and is therefore an exceptional adventure travel motorcycle. The promise is that running out of tarmac won’t be a problem on this machine. After all where the road ends is often where the adventure begin. 

Husqvarna have a lot of experience building multi-terrain Rally machines. Based on this they have made the new Norden 901 to cover long distances across challenging and diverse landscapes. This is going to be fast, fun, nimble and above all capable. This is a motorcycle to make even the longest riding days rewarding, no matter how far the rider chooses to go, either on the road or off it. While at exactly the same time being more than capable of handling a Monday morning commute.  Having a large capacity, 19-litre fuel tank with a range of up to 400 km certainty opens up the possibilities if you don’t fancy the office…

Husqvarna Norden 901 - Adventure Class

Powered by a parallel twin that at 899cc puts out 105 bhp the new bike punches its way into the middle of the adventure class sector. The steel trellis frame houses the motor which in turn benefits from a vibration reducing balance shaft. The chassis is also built with carrying capacity. This allows the rider to load the bike with luggage and a passenger. And to do so on some of the toughest trails on the planet. 

Making this a little bit easier is a full set of WP APEX suspension, which, of course, comes  with long travel. Up front there is an off road capable 21’’ front and wheel with an 18’’offering down the back. They are both tubeless spoked wheels fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres. Between them both they make short work of a challenging bit of trail riding.  

The Husqvarna Norden 901 comes as standard with a braking system that features switchable Bosch Cornering ABS with both Street and Offroad modes. The new steed also features the companies in house lean-angle sensitive Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control. Particular attention has been paid to this toys level of offroad assistance.

Husqvarna Norden 901 - Explorer

There are three selectable ride modes as standard delivered via a ride by wire throttle. They are the usual Street, Rain, and Offroad with an optional Explorer mode. The idea behind the last one is that the rider has all they might need to deal with whatever they might meet regardless of where they ride. An Easy Shift function allows for clutchless changes up and down the six-speed gearbox. Meanwhile a Power Assist Slipper Clutch maintains rear wheel composure. After all, there are only so many times you can pick your bike up and 100 NM of torque is going to need some management.

The tech continues with an optional connectivity unit. This provides turn-by-turn navigation, phone reception and music selection functionality from the rider’s smartphone via the ‘clocks’. There is even a whole range of clothing to go with the new bike as well as a full luggage set.
